The Minnesota STAR Chapters are "Rolling out the Red Carpet" for all STAR Days participants. Consider the following routes for your last miles getting to STAR Days! A few routes shouldn't slow you down much, but others are designed to be slower - adding a more scenic and curvy option.
Also, you may want to reverse a different route for your return trip home ... or to a different compass point to extend your summer road trip.

From the Southeast, consider a route beginning at historic Galena near Dubuque.
Travelling through Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota this route covers your last
250 miles. A stay at The View Motel
is recommended for your last night on the road. This is a popular weekend destination
trip for Minnesota chapters. This route starts in Elizabeth, IL and goes through Galena, Prairie du Chien in Wisconsin, Waukon in Iowa, and Houston and Winona in Minnesota. Not on the route but just 30 miles south of The View is Poopy's - an unappetizing name but a very popular must-see motorcycle location with great food. |
Southeast from Galena, IL |
Recommended in a similar direction from the Southeast, another choice heads in from
Hillsboro, WI. Every year Minnesota chapter 292 hosts a weekend trip centered around
The Hillboro Hotel.
Riding the great roads in this area never disappoint! This route begins passing through
Wildcat Mountain State Park
and includes the
Minduro Cut with some very nice twisty roads! Crossing the Mississippi River into
Winona, MN and taking the river road US Hwy 61 will get you the last 170 miles to STAR Days. Alternatively, you can follow this route from Hillsboro through Wildcat Mountain and cross into Minnesota from La Crosse, WI. You'll follow the Root River on MN 16 before heading north to Red Wing. This will be about 215 miles for your last day. |
Southeast from Hillsboro, WI |
From Northeast Iowa you can ride to STAR Days after visiting the National Motorcycle Museum and/or J&P Cycles before riding some nice backroad twisties bringing you in for your last 265 miles. |
South from NE Iowa |
From the West, consider this route beginning in Wall, SD. It includes Pierre, SD and travels through Marshall - the home of our outstate chapter 475. This scenic route was suggested by Rob, our SE Minn Ambassador, and will get you to Red Wing for your last 535 miles. |
West from South Dakota |
From the Southwest, a good option starts from Grand Island, NE. You'll travel through Sioux City, IA and Worthington and Mankato in Minnesota. If the 470 miles from Grand Island seems a bit far, an overnight in Sioux City makes for a shorter 290 miles for your last day. |
